White House Cybersecurity Coordinator, Howard Schmidt
South Sound Tech. Conference Keynote
South Sound Technology Conference
Droid16Having White House Cybersecurity Coordinator as a keynote was a real draw with around 300 people attending the conference.
Droid16He has such a natural delivery and personal style. He gave this entire address without powerpoints,, cue cards or bullet points.
Droid16Even though it is a global issue, the attacks come at national, regional and local levels.
Droid16Several times he mentioned that cybersecurity is a global endeavor based logically on the fact the web is by its nature world wide. What will be interesting is how local and national governments handle the laws and processes that fit their culture.
Droid16The nations that try to subvert innovation will be perpetually behind the information curve.
Droid16I would like to see this address broken out into approx ten to fifteen minute digestible pieces.
Droid16Listen to how quiet and attentive the audience is.
Droid16Someone should do a study factoring importance to the individual and the corresponding security level of their accounts. Then trace the pattern of log-ins upward to see if an obvious progression emerges, making the high security log-ins less secure.
Droid16Great talk, now some excellent Q and A.
KevinThis is actually Erik Hanberg of SidexSide Publishing who was also on a panel later this same day re: South Sound Entrepreneurs Weekend
Droid16Derek Young of Seasonal View is asking this question.
Droid16Freedom, security and convenience, pick two. Howard responds it is not a choice but a continuum.
Kevin"What's the demand for cyber security expertise in the gov't (students would like to know)?"
